4l60e shortcomings?

I know the 700r4 has bad 1st to 2nd gear ratio's,and that it would be pricey to build to handle 550+ft/lbs of torque. But what about the 4l6oe? I don't know much about this tranny, can it even be swapped into a 1986 camaro with a carbed non computer controlled 400sbc?

I really want overdrive back in my camaro but don't like ther gearing in the 700r4.

A 4L60E is the same thing as a 700R4, just with a computer controlled valve body.

Try a 200-4R, then. Watch out though, as they dont all have the Chevrolet bolt pattern.

Thanxs, i'm going to look into the cost of getting and building a 2004r to withstand 550+ft/lbs verus swapping in a six speed. I know the six speed swap will cost more, and be a lot more work. But it'd be alot more fun to have a manual tranny in there.

Find a 200-4R out of a late 80s Monte Carlo SS. I'm not sure what other Chevy cars had them. If you need some references to people that can build you a killer 200-4R let me know. Properly built they're good into the high 9s.

I have a few 4L60E's in the nines, and staying with the 700R4 would be cheaper in the long run, and parts for them are readily available. The right torque converter will keep the gear ratio spread from being a problem.

From searching i've gathered that either auto od can be built to take the abuse, it's now more of a debate with myself if i'd prefer to have a manual or auto.

I'll have the time and spare bucks this summer to do the t-56 swap as i've decided to put off swapping a 5.3l into my s10 due to my up coming wedding.

I used to only car about how fast the car got down the track, but now my goal is to make it more enjoyable to drive on the street.

You can have the best of both worlds with the T56. If you put in a killer set of rearend gears such as 4.10's, you'll still go like hell at the track and be able to cruise at freeway speeds no problem in sixth gear.

I'm definitly leaning toward the t-56 as i was looking forward to doing the 5.3l swap in the s-10, now that i wont have available funds for that i can at least do the t-56 swap in the camaro.

it wont be as difficult or fun as the 5.3l swap but it'll be far cheaper. Seen complete used swap kit going for 1800 bux(tranny, bellhouseing, flywhell, master and slave cyl.+ all line). While i can get a 5.3lw/ computer and tranny for close to the same that swap would cost me 5g's more in various parts.
