S10 Gears Good Replacement?
Hey everybody,
Right now, I have a 2.73 non posi rear end, and there is someone that is selling a s10 7.5 inch 3.23 posi unit. My question is, that can I take that unit and just directly replace it? I am not sure which year this rear end is from and once i find out ill post it up.
Thanks very much
Chris

okay... how bout this
Can a 7.5 inch 3.23 s10 carrier with gears and posi unit (3 series I believe) fit in a 7.625 inch rear end(2 series)? Will it be able to fit the 28 spline axles that I have?
thanks

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
7.5" and 7.625" are the same thing, as far as installing them. they interchange completely.
Yes the S truck stuff will bolt right into any other 7.5/7.625" rear.
The housing does not care what series of carrier is installed in it. A 3 series or a 2 series will fit in any housing.
Only way to know if it will fit 28 spline axles, is to know the year of the carrier. If it's a 90 or newer, then it will fit 28 spline axles. If it's 88 or older, it won't. If it's 89 it could be either.
The S truck "posi" is probably an Eaton Gov-Lock. If that's what it is, you don't want it, it's garbage. It can be identified by 2 little weights on 2 litle shafts visible in the "window" of the carrier. If it looks like this pic, don't bother.
