U joint went Bad Cracked Tranny
One of the caps came off on the tranny side u joint. This made a really bad vibration and cracked my 5 speed tranny. I was wondering if a v6 5 speed would work. i know the shaft is different in that the v8s have 28 teeth and the v6 has 26. but i was wondering if the ratios are all the same. Any help would be appreciated thanks

Same as everybody else: doesn't work for them, won't for you either.
However, if the piece that cracked was the extension housing (the rear half casting), a 6-cyl that piece is the same as a V8 one, so you can use a 6-cyl core to scab parts to repair yours.

ok thanks. where its cracked is underneath towards the bellhousing. Theres a blazer in deland that has a t-5. he said its a six. What won't work with a v6 tranny. is there different ratios?

Does anyone think i can maybe just get the casing welded at a shop. do you think this would solve the problem instead of spending like 400 on a new trans.

Its possible if its done right and the damage isnt too severe. My friend did the same with his after a hole was punched through the bottom of the trans, and it worked. I had a blazer where the tail of the xfer case was shattered, and that one was fixed by the previous owner with hose clamps and epoxy putty, and that too worked for the several years that I owned it. It depends on where the crack is as well. If its somewhere critical, your better off replacing it.
