Worn Axles??

Since I'm not too educated with the worn axles, I need some help please. Do these axles look worn or are they ok to use?
Thanks

Can't tell anything from that end...

The place they primarily wear is where the bearing runs on them. About 1½" inboard of the axle flange.

The splines look fine but like Sofa said they usually wear down where the axle bearing wears.

Great thank you both very much. I felt the other side and those seem fine but I'll take pics of those tomorrow and post them to make sure they seem to be ok.

Now I have drums on my 86 rear now, with 26 splines, I'm upgrading with these 28 splines, I didn't find out if the person was running drums or disc in the back..does this matter if I'm just swapping to higher spline axles? I am also upgrading to a posi, 28spline.
Thanks

here are the other pics.

So the worn area near the splines is nothing to worry about as long as the splines are ok. Right?
Thanks for the help.

There's no wear anywhere near the splines that I could see; no part of the axle touches anything except the splines themselves, the very end where the C-clip goes, and the bearing surface.

The one in the left-hand pic is OK but well-used. The one in the right-hand pic is pretty much used up and not likely to survive long. Look at the roughness and pitting where the bearing goes: that surface should be nearly indistinguishable from the rest of that machined place. If it's different, it's not a good thing.

If you want this to last a long trouble-free time, I'd suggest new axles. They're not expensive enough to be worth taking a risk on.

I'd be concerned with 2 things:

1. Spline condition (ie - do the teeth look worn / uneven / chipped)

2. C-clip ridge condition - does it look like the c-clips have been wearing against the axles? when the rear end was together could you pul the axle in and out any?

My 88' RS rear end bit the bullet last summer - had like 120,000 on it, 10,000 of which was with a 3.73 gear and a strong motor, and there was easily 1/8 to 1/4 of c-clip slop in the rear axles.

I don't recall that my axles looked quite that bad, but I used some off-set bearings a couple of years ago. All's well in my world.

TP355 - I actually bought the axles from someone and they were already out of the car so not sure on the C-clip play but I appreciate all this input.
