i want to put the 700r4 back into my 83 camaro which is pushing 325-340 horses. will my rebuilt 700 hold up. ive heard that they want and to switch to a th350 but i really would like to keep my 4 speed. its rebuilt with fairly heavy duty parts and shift kit. let me know what yall think.

If you're willing to spend the money on the right parts, a 700r4 can be built to withstand up to 500-600 horsepower no problem. Dana at Pro Built Automatics can tell you exactly what you need to beef it up properly for your level of power.

It all depends on the experience and skill level of the person who rebuilt it. Some put stock parts back in it and call it rebuilt, and others put the good stuff in there and call it rebuilt. As Pat said, a properly built 700R4 will live behind 500 HP for a very long time, but its still not bulletproof.

Brutalforms 92 made 500 hp and 600 ft lbs of torque at the flywheel with a bad tune up. He ran a stone stock 700 with a beast reaction shell. After 2 years and 2 full seasons of drag racing, we pulled it apart to check it out. The 3-4 clutches were just starting to burn.
We upgraded it this time.
How they are built is just as important as the parts in it. Maybe more important than the parts.

Mine is holding 604hp and 650 tq(flywheel) on the bottle. It's got all the bells and whistle's though.
