Is the v6 t5 same as the v8 t5 except for bellhousing?

I'm thinking of changing my 85 iroc-z TPI into a five speed for now. I can't find a good deal let alone a t5 for a v8. But i can probably find plent of v6's with t5's. Would iI be able to but the v6 t5 and just change the bellhousing and just buy the v8 parts? I haven't heard anybody say that the v6 and v8 t5's were different internally. Please HELP! This is my toy car and the thought of an automatic just isn't as fun as the 5speed.

No, they are different.

The subject is absolutely beat to death on this board. I hate to be the one to say it, but a search for posts with "T-5" and both "6" and "8" in them will keep you reading for DAYS. Literally.

This is one of those things where IMO a "good deal" fades into oblivion next to "getting the right thing". Either you want the parts, or you don't. No point in p***ing and moaning about what they cost.
