Transmission Governor?

I was just reading a post about installing this in addition to the transgo shift kit, but what does the governor do?...is it the same as the valve for WOT shifts in 4th gear? Perhaps someone can clarify that point, Thanks.

The governor controls shift points for all gears.

Alright, so does installing the 'better' governor delay the shift points for better acceleration?

There isn't a "better" governor. You can vary the weights and springs on it to adjust the shift points, though.

if you grind some weight off it then it will hold gears longer

or so i have read

i tried it once but i dont remember the result or the vehicle i believe it was in one of the caprices i had

forgot now., too many vehicles ago

I can tell you that a governor used with the 2.8 TBI in the S-series trucks and 3.73 gears, shifted right at 5,500. I have one in the Van as well as my S15 Jimmy. They both shift right at 5,500, with the untouched governors. OD by 45 mph in both.

so if the governor controls the WOT shift points, does it also control light throttle shift points? i can not get my tranny to shift before 2 grand at light throttle w/o pulling the tv cable out about 5 clicks.

just curious.
