Torque convertor

Here is a picture of a recent purchase I made off of another board. Its suppose to be a 3500-3800 convertor for a turbo 350. Yes I bought used...the person assured me it was in good shape and the car launched really hard that it came out of. As you can see by the picture something is wrong with it. I have no idea how convertors operate or what they look like inside. The piece you see is basically round and floating around in the front of the convertor. Any thoughts on what is is? I'm deffinately not going to put in front of my brand new tranny....hopefully the seller will give me a refund ( says he will ). But just curious on thoughts about the piece in there? Thanks.

Cant take it out unless I were to cut it out. It is completely circular. I slid it over with a pencil so I could get a good photo of it....otherwise it is just floating in there. Had to come loose from inside the convertor some where looks like a shim or thrust washer....something along that line.

I'd say it looks like a thrust washer . I'd also say sorry the converter's junk .

Looks like a thrust washer from inbetween the impeller and turbine inside the converter.. to be honest the 150 dollor mistake probably just saved you 1500 for a trans rebuild. putting a used converter infront of a new trans is a terrible idea, you can't completly clean a converter without cutting it open and all the fluid from the converter goes right into the cooler then into the trans and with new trans fluid being such a good detergent it woudl have probably cloged the cooler and cooked your trans... good luck man
