So I scored a 9 bolt today
I was at the local pick n pull and I came across an 85 TA with a disc brake 9 bolt. I pulled it and paid $110 for the complete rear with all the brakes and lines with the prop vale. My question is how do I clean out the inside of the carrier to check it out? Is there a special cleaner to use or can I use brake cleaner? Thanks for the help!

clean it out ? just pull the cover and look, then put it back on with a new gasket or caulk and refill it
if it needs cleaned out then its probably in sad worn out shape
good luck

remove all fluid, scoop it out the bottom with your fingers while wearing latex gloves, then use a can of brake cleaner to spray everything off and then reassemble and fill with your choice of lube

Thanks guys. I sprayed it all off and everything looks to be in real good shape. One thing I notice is on the ring and pinion there is yellow paint and the letters DSF 315 scribed in it. Are all 9 bolt gears like this? Also the diff is painted orange on the inside and looks like it was orange on the outside. Is this normal, or was someone in here before for a rebuild? Thanks!!
