i have a trans am 88 tpi 5L auto, and it doesn't want to shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear in WOT. It shifts very smoothly from 1st, but not from 2nd. However the problem is only on WOT in 2nd. What happens is the car just holds it in 2nd gear until i ease off the throttle, I once went about 6k rpms and still it held 2nd until i eased off the gas and then it shifted into 3rd and then into 4th??? Any suggestions???Thanks for your helpp>

 

how does the tranny fluid look ? how long has it been since the filter was changed ? i always look at these 2 things any time an auto tranny is having a problem

 

does it TRY to shift but just keeps slipping? Or does it seem like it doesnt even try at all?

 

I had the tranny serviced about 30,000 kms ago, meaning new fluid, filter and gaskedts etc....No its not slipping, it just holds it (its not trying to change gears).

 

try adjusting the tv/detent cable
