Excessive high revs throughout a 3 speed auto gear change would be down to the torque converter needing replacement.
5L 305 SBC mated to 200c box
third gear @ 60mph revs @ 5500rpm.

cheers

Stu

No I would not agree.

Sounds to me like your tach is broken, like they always are. They break by reading high.

Im new to v8's, it sounds a bit on the high side by ear also, i would think a lowish rpm of 2,000 @ 60mph with not to much roar, this things practically squeeling at 70.

im confused

does it spike up during shift, or wind up gradualyl higher and higher until it shifts finally, or ?

if the latter then make sure the cable isnt pulling out too far or the cable link inside the trans isnt stuck pulled

if the former then clutch packs toasted

god luck

ive had the pan off to check the oil, all seems nice and clean.
altered the kickdown/detent cable to the correct tension.

i get 1st 2nd and 3rd shifts, would think that 3rd would be the cruising gear but revs are way up at 5500 at 60 and then 6000 or so at 70.

Conclusion: the trans is fine.

Check the "trim package" in your dash against an actual instrument. I think you'll probably find it's reading about two times reality.
