today i took off and hit 2nd gear fine but when it shifted into third it stoped moving forward reved up as in nuteral and wouldnt upshift ..... The tranny is a 700R-4 with 187k on it is it something electriacal or is the tranny shot

Sounds like you lost the 3-4 clutch pack, common on these units, but 187K miles is pretty good though.

 

happened to me 1 1/2 ago it would shift into 3rd but if you give it any gas, enough to keep moving it reved alsmost like it was in neutral, 187,000 is a good run, mine died at 110,00
