clutch drag
clutch drag
Just installed new clutch in 89 rs and the clutch seems to engage at
the correct spot but the clutch still spins making gear selection hard and
reverse grind.I rebled but the problem persists.
My options are ?
remove and do again
Hope it gets better
I used a new pilot bearing and the trans is a fresh rebuild.
Could air in the lines exhibit this behavior or would that only effect it
if the pedal engaged low?

Re: clutch drag
here is the list of things that could be wrong..
bent slave pushrod
bent clutch fork
throwout bearing insttalled incorrectly
warped clutch disk/pressure plate
trans mis-aligned
wornout master or slave cylinder
air in hydraulics(least likely)
how many miles are on the clutch???who installed it?? if you did, did you separate the hydraulic lines from the slave or master??

Re: clutch drag
New clutch and I didn't seperate the slave and master. Clutch was perfect
before but with lots of miles. When I disconnected the slave from
the bellhousing I just let it hang, I think that's ok. New pilot, resurfaced flywheel. Pretty sure I need to dissasemble again.
Thanks for the reply

Re: clutch drag
how much mileage does the car have? like i listed, it could be bent parts or just plain wornout.. if the hydraulics are wornout, there is a guy on here that sells aluminum slave cylinders and braided lines.. its sort of an upgrade.. his name is Nelapse, you can PM for more info on that..
Re: clutch drag
So I drove to work and the shifting got easier and easier with a small grind when going into reverse so I waited one more day and all is perfect ! The car fixed itself so I'm gonna have to go with the new pilot bearing must have been too snug or tight and was allowing the trans input shaft to slowly spin. The clutch engages about in the middle of the travel and the trans shifts like butter. Thanks for the help.

Re: clutch drag
alright.. glad to hear all is well..
btw, my dad just blew out the slave on my car.. he took it out to pull the headers so he could change the head gasket and went to put it in neutral and pop..
but i dont care.. he did all the work and he's paying for the slave so score for me..
he's gonna try track down an aluminum slave too..
