It goes in the valve body, but I've never done it, so I can't tell you how hard of a job it is. I'd like to do it eventually, so if anyone's done it, let us know how tough it is.

I'm sure it's not too hard though, drop the pan, drop the valve body, replace the valve, reassemble. But I'd like to know form someone who has done it.
