Flare up on 2 to 3 shift

Tranny shifts fine on 1 to 2 (Hard) On the 2 to 3 shift under heavy throtle the tranny flares for just a second...Does not slip, or anything after that...It is worse with less TV Cable pressure.....So I run it as tight as I can, but when I floor it, it pulls the cable out, so I constantly readjust it...ANYWAY, what are the possible causes of 2 to 3 flare up???? I know the tranny is high milage, but am hoping to not rebuild it for awhile longer....Thanks for any ideas on this subject, Tom

Re: Flare up on 2 to 3 shift

Don't know the answer to the question but have exactly the same problem, I'd call mine a lazy shift from second to third. For all I know it's designed in from the factory. Hope the fix is something simple like a shift kit or some sort of adjustment.

Re: Flare up on 2 to 3 shift

Ive already got a shift kit, and a corvette servo, It shifts great all other times 1 to 2, ans 3 to 4......I keep thinking there could be something sticking inside......There was no gunk in the pan when the fluid, and filter was changed, nor when the shift kit was put in.........I know I have a rebuild in the future, but not yet...I can drive it like this for a long time im sure, but I dont like it when im at the track, or in a hurry....lol....Thanks again, Tom

if the tach is flaring between 2nd and 3rd, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the 3-4 clutches are probably on their way out. Went through it on my 92. good news is it is a relatively cheap repair.

Kinda knew that, but was hoping it was a sticking valve....Guess I can have just a minium done to it right now, or just drive like a normal person for awhile..(Damn that is no fun) It has been this way for over 20,000 miles now....Did you do just the clutchs, or did you do a complete rebuild????Thanks, Tom
