Re: 3-4 clutch pack

So, you fried your 3-4 pack eh? I did a full rebuild of mine recently, it cost me ~400 to do it with a new converter, bigass cooler, all the small stuff and a basic rebuild kit. I messed up on the TV cable (TPI TV cable on a TBI motor) and burned the 3-4 pack a second time, costing me ~100 more after fluids and such (I ended up using ~4-5 gallon to flush the converter well) I have about another 75-100 in valve body mods as well (Transgo HD shift kit, 'vette servo boost valve 9C1 3-4 assembly and so on) to boot. The pics I took while I did it can be found here. Oh yeah, it's not 100% done (have a few more pics but not many)

Besides that I will add BLOW $30 ON A NEW TV CABLE. I got one from the JY that was stretched beyond adjustment (think it was there with a blown trans, imagine that) mine had 1/2 inch of stretch in it compared to the new one too so I'm wondering if it took my old trans out.

Re: 3-4 clutch pack

It took me about two weeks to do start to finish. But I have a nice shop with a lift (very helpful).

It's not too hard. Just take your time and don't rush things and follow instructions. Get ATSE book for $10 - it is totally worth it for this job.

It cost me about $200 in clutches/bands, etc. and I put in a $500 3000 stall converter. I also got the TV bracket setup from bowtie overdrives. Man that thing works great. $100 but it is worth it in my opinion to not burn up your brand new tranny

If you have a shop rebuild it I think I was quoted a minimum of about $800, but most wanted more. And then you'd have to work with them to have them put in the beefier parts.

Re: 3-4 clutch pack

My friend fried his 3-4 clutch packs twice. He just ended up putting new trannys in instead of the rebuild process.
