700r4 upgrades
Just replaced my 2.77 rear with a 3.27 rear and now im going to start investing in the trans. So far i have ordered a vette servo for it and plan to get a imperial trans cooler and 2300 stall converter for it. What else should i do to it to firm up the shifts and make it last longer. Ive heard that shift kits can mess up a high mileage trans which my odometer says 110,000 but the old owner claims it was rebuilt at one time. How would i get it to shift into od at wot and for it to shift right at 5500?
Re: 700r4 upgrades
That will require a special valve and sleeve to be able to do wot 3-4 shifts. You probably will not require a new vette 2nd servo because you car should have one from the factory. As far as making it shift harder a shift kit is the solution although I see that you are worried about the mileage. To make it shift right a 5500 that could be very tricky because you might have to get a governor recalibration kit and also sometimes you still have to go into the valve body to play with the shift valve springs. I do not suggest doing this if you do not know a lot about transmissions.
Re: 700r4 upgrades
You do need the vette servo. If this wasn't the case, nobody with a thirdgen would be buying them, and it's one of the most popular upgrades discussed here. As far as the tv sleeve goes, do a search for WOT 3-4 shift on here. There's a post on here from a couple of months ago covering how to modify your existing one to accomplish it. All you have to do is buy two cheap screws, drill and tap two of the holes in the sleeve, install the screws using loctite, and grind them down flush. It's about 50 bucks for the Vette tv sleeve, and it's a waste of money since your existing one is so easy to modify. As far as achieving 5500 shift points, you can get a governor recalibration kit, or you can just buy a vette governor to replace yours with. They're supposed to be calibrated for 5500 shifts, and you can buy them brand new from PATC Raptor corp. for about 60 bucks IIRC. I wouldn't be hesitant to get a shift kit either, as long as you buy a good one (i.e. Transgo). Stay away from the B&M kit. A shift kit can actually extend the life of an older trans since firming up the shifts and making them quicker means less slippage of the clutches, hence, less wear on the clutches.
