IS MY TRANSMISSION OUT??????????

This is my first thread and post, Im 17, been workin my *** off for 5 months, and I just bought my first car. A 1986 camaro sports coupe, with the 2.8 liter. I've had it about a month and For the past week before my tranny stopped workin I heard a sound like something had come loose and was rattling around in one of my pans. The next day I came out and i tried to put it in reverse and it stayed in idle, so I put it in every gear and it stayed in idle. I checked the fluid and its straight red, and full, with no metal bits in it. I have no idea what the hell it is, but I miss my car, and just wanted to know if anyone had an idea of what might be wrong. thnx

Did you check the fluid when the car was running and hot?

Re: IS MY TRANSMISSION OUT??????????

It doesn't sound like she is out. I' am just getting into transmissions so I can't give you the best advice. But, i can give a positive comment .

I think its something very simple. Check the level when its warmed up. Did you pull your filter out?? Check that. Also, I would look to talk to a tranny shop, because they can help you diagnose it, and if they start adding stuff just change the shop.

I took mine in for a servo change, and I ended up with a leak (that I did not have before). They came out and told me "Oh, by the way..." So, I told him, by the way you just lost a costumer. So, if they start adding stuff dissmiss them immidiatelly. That way you can find someone reliable.

Third gens are not nearly as bad as you might think right now.
