TV modulator upshift/downshift spring
TV modulator upshift/downshift spring
I was just curious as to what effects reversing the TV modulator upshift and downshift valve springs would have. I have 1-3, and 4 but if I give it any gas hardly it down shifts back into third. I think I may have reversed these two springs during the rebuild (#s 302 and 304 in the ATSG book) What are the right colors for them if I pull the VB to check. Also, any other thoughts on what may be causing this issue?
Re: TV modulator upshift/downshift spring
Leave the TV modulator upshift and downshift valve springs alone. The TV plunger sleeve 4-3 downshift passages are what controls the 4-3 downshift as to how easy or hard the 4-3 downshifts are obtained. You can block these passages with two small Allen screws and a dremel, $.34 cents for two. This will eliminate the 4-3 downshift at higher speeds (apx. 65-75mph), and at lower speeds you still will have the 4-3 downshift, depending on the rear end gear ratio. If you have access to a few 700R4 valve bodies, then you could locate one that will make it harder to get a 4-3 downshift, but not eliminate it all together.

Re: TV modulator upshift/downshift spring
The upshift and downshift valves cannot be mixed up, the same for the springs, they are different sizes. The bigger valve has the light spring, and the smaller one a heavy spring. You could recheck all of your work, but I would call TransGo at 626 4437451 ask for Dave, he should be able to help you out here.
