swap out

I got an 84 firebird s/e, it came with a 2.8 (crap) and a 700r4. I have swapped out the 2.8 with a 350. I am tired of replacing the 700r4, I'm on #4. I want to swap it to a th350. other than the torque arm bracket, I have the hurst kit, is there anything I need to know? what length tail shaft do I want? will the tranny crossmember work or does it need to be modified? will the shifter cable need to be replaced? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys!

Re: swap out

Sounds like you're about to undertake a good sized job. Have you ever been inside an automatic transmission? They're not the black magic you may think they are.

I am asking for a couple of reasons. First, why would you think a turbo 350 is better than a 700R4? I have really pounded 700R4s and they don't seem to be any weaker than a 350 to me.

Before you give up, here are some things to consider:

-You should look for a 700 from 1988 through 1993. They have the most factory upgrades inside them. 1985 and newer have a 31 spline input shaft versus the 82 to 84 27 spline unit that breaks sometimes.
-The most commonly destroyed part inside is the sun shell and you can use the one from an old turbo 350 to repair that before the damage happens.

Do what you want; I just hate to give up a 3.08 first gear and overdrive for a 2.54 first gear and no overdrive.
