Need help picking a transmission
I have a 91 Camaro RS currently 305 TBI and I have a 400 sbc lined up for it but I need some advice as to what transmission to put behind it because i know the stock T-5 wont hold that kind of torque. Thanks in advance.

yea that T5 wont live behind the torque of a stock 350tpi hence why they didnt come with them let alone ur 400. wats the HP output of the new motor? if u want to keep the stick just go aftermarket, T56 etc wat ever u want and how many gears u want or if u want overdrive highway gears....which u want.
if u wanna go automatic there are alot of trans out there for resonable prices.
theres a company that builds the t56's to over 600ftlbs

I havent had the engine dyno'd but Im guessing that itll be around 400hp to the ground. I plan on keeping it a manual thats the biggest reason i bought the car. It was the only one that I had seen around where I live that was a 5-speed. Looks Like Ill be going with the a T-56 only problem now is building the rearend to handle the power or buying one that will.

Unless your going to run slicks i wouldnt worry about the rear end. Traction is what kills them, if you get a dead hook off the line you could grenade them pretty easy. But with street tires your alot more likely to bust the tire loose before you grenade the rear end!

yea that is true, u can build the 10bolt to live forever behind 400rear wheel hp, moser 28spline axels, auburn posi unit, support gurdle, weld the axle tubes, and raytech solid installation kit is built for 400rwhp. or get ready to throw 1800-2000 for a 12 bolt. i read u can throw in a 8.8 ford outa a fox body with 33 spline axels that will be better than the 12bolt, only prob is the thin axle tubes.
