Building a 700R4

I went out to ProBuilt's site and was looking for info on a rebuild. The car is an 84, so I'm assuming the trans is too. If that's the case, which rebuild kit does one look for? The HD and Street/Strip kits are for 88+. Is the 84 inherently weaker than the later trans? Should I just sell it off and look for a used 200R4?

The intent with the car is a weekend cruiser/drag car. I'm building it with a basic single turbo. Expectations are somewhere in the 4-450 range.

Re: Building a 700R4

Go to https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/prod...&cat=19&page=1 this covers the 1982-1986 transmissions. I will need to know the input spline count as it changed from 27 to 30 in mid 1984. The spline count will be needed when ordering a torque converter. The 27 spline measures .890" in diameter, and the 30 spline .990". With what you are trying to do, this transmission should be fine. Any questions on this let me know?

You're exactly the person I was hoping would chime in. Thanks. I'll get with you as soon as I drop the trans.
