Shifter Question

Pro 5.0 Shifter.

Apparently it is also adjustable.

1. Why would I want to adjust this thing

and

2. Do you think it'll be fine the way it came in the box? Or do i need to make sure it is a certain adjustment before installing?

Re: Shifter Question

i went with the hurst and its adjustable, meaning you can mess with it and see what feels best for shifting, grandma or racing, and itll work out of the box just fine. Make sure you tighten those bolts otherwise they will stop your shifter from shifting properly, make sure it shifts smooth through all gears, then tighten them with the nuts.

Re: Shifter Question

The adjustments are just "stops"... they keep the shifter from trying to move TOO far, and braeking something inside the transmission...

They absolutely MUST be adjusted. The usual method will be something like: screw them out until you can put the shifter in a gear that moves the handle in one direction (usually 2nd) without the bolt touching the handle, and hold it in 2nd with some force; then adjust the stop bolt back in until it just contacts the shifter handle; then put it in neutral, adjust it in ½ turn or something (follow the mfr's instruction), and lock with the nut. THen do the same for the other one, usually 3rd gear.

Re: Shifter Question

As sofaking suggested, they are more stops. When youre racing, or doing some spirited shifting, its not good for the transmission. WHen you shift normally, say into 2nd, you will notice you can still move the handle back a little bit, until something stops it. This stoping u feel, is the internal components of the tranny.

So when you shift hard and fast, your actually beating up the internals, with the stop screws, you can throw the shifter as hard as you want, and not worry about hurting the tranny.
