this is my first time posting so bear with me. I just picked up a super clean 1992 firebird, with very hi milage 160K. The title says it's a firebird formula, but it's clearly not (a formula) since it has TBI fuel injection, a firebird hood and rear spoiler, and the old factory window sticker (1 owner car) says it's a firebird with the sport apperance package (which consits of T/A side moldings front and rear facias as well as T/A wheels). anyway the trans is a little sloppy once it warms up I was thinking of buying one built up on the floor or off the site here from someone but i want to get the right one. someone told me it could be one of 2 diffrent models either a 700R4 or another model i'm not familar with. is there anyway of finding out which one it is through the VIN or some other way without pulling it out first?

 

The only automatic available in 92 was the 700R4.

 

The car was definately an original 700R4.

Couldnt say for sure whats on there now though, a popular swap is the 3spd th350. But if you have a 4spd its either a 700r4 or unlikely a 200-4r
