I know somebody has asked this question before but the search option is down and my tranny is slipping pretty bad. I know probuilt is the best of the best but my wallet cannot support the best of the best rebuild kit.
has anybody used this kit and where you satisfied or no?

Pro built or PATC(raptor) - the TCI & B&M junk just doesn't hold up.
If you simply can't afford it, just hit a decent parts house that sells ATP trans parts. I've run ATP rebuild kits in a couple heavy use 4wd's without any problems, but I use the superior valvebody/shift improver kit and a minimum of a vette servo in all my builds.
PATC has a really good kit for around $300 that includes billet servos, the beast reaction shell, good clutches(frictions and steals), the superior vb kit, all seals/gaskets, pump vanes, etc and if you buy the kit they will lower the price of a converter.
note: never re-use your old converter

thanks.....i heard some guys just say if you dont want to shell out all the $ for raptor or pro built, let your local tranny shop know what you want and how much power you want it to hold up to and they will hook it up....Hopefully this time this tranny will stay together

well i went with the raptor rebuild kit and it shifts nice....not quite as snappy as i thought it would be with the parts in there but still ALOT better than what it was when it went in there....maybe the shift will sharpen up down the road ::shrug:: I am having a problem with the TC though.....
Shagwell plz dont hit me for doing this....
I did NOT buy a TC from Raptor.....I found a good deal (or so I thought) on the classifieds for a 2500 lockup stall for less than what Raptor sells their Super Street Raptor converter......and now it isnt stalling at all!!!!! Looks like I will be giving raptor a call for a TC anyways. should've listen to you ****....oh well you live and you learn.

I try not to razz anyone too hard, but I try to give advice based off of experiences. I've learned the hard way WAY too many times. - A cheap converter will lessen the shifts and will not allow the car to reach it's potential.
I would note that the raptor and transgo kits are designed to shift hard the right way. They are crisp all the time, but firmer and firmer the harder you step on it. Aggressive shifts all the time(insert B&M kit here) kill trans life by over pounding the planetaries.
Make sure your are setting the detent cable correctly. There is only one correct setting, anything else is hard on the trans.
Also, since the tc went out, make sure you flush everything thoroughly and use a new filter and fluid.
Local shops are ok, but many tend to not check all tolerances properly and I've seen many that don't change the apply piston seals because of the "extra" time involved. If you konw a reputable shop, then it wouldn't be bad to take them your parts and just pay them for the labor. Many shops try to "upgrade" 700r's as they do with old school 3 speeds, which just doesn't work.

the idea of dropping a th350 did occur in my head....then i would have to get a new chip burned more money blah blah blah... the stockish converter might be what is holding the firmer shift back then?
btw since we are on the subject....how long would it take to break the new transmission in before i stomp on it?
