Ok just got done installing a Rebuilt 700R4. went to my local chevy dealer spent a nice chunk of change (I wanted the warranty) and had it shipped from GM's warehouse in MICH. to long island NY. My brother who works for a local mopar dealer did the install. BUT...... after all is said and done I can't get the trans in first and sometimes can't get in park, the other day i thought it was in park, shut it off started to walk away and turned around to watch it start rolling away .....WTF? I checked to make sure i wasn't crazy and the selector was in park. i pulled it back to the spot and then ****** it back into park and it was holding ok. it's real hard to get it into park, you really have to push up on the shifter, and first is nowhere to be found at all. but there is alot of slop in the shifter between OD and N. can someone please tell me what's going on my next move is to hang my head in shame and bring it to the dealer and say "my car's broke can you fix it?".... and as for my brother... i will make him pay!!!!......for the reapir

 

Sounds like your installer does not know how to adjust the trans cable/linkage. Get a decent manual and follow the directions for installing/adjusting the cable/linkage or find someone who knows how to work on 700r4s. There`s nothing wrong with your tranny so don`t worry about it, just get it adjusted and you are ok.

 

do you mean something like a CHILTON's or something else?

 

ok got a chilton's the one in the book says to make the adjustment at the trans. the other says to make the adjustment at the shifter what gives? can someone please tell me how to adjust this damn thing?????????

 

get up under the car and see if the trans cable bracket is bolted to the trans pan. when they get loose you have the same problem. maybe he forgot to bolt it back up.

 

That was it !!! The bracket was never tightned up. thanks for the help!!!!!!
