Stall too high?????
Just got the new motor done and running. Took it out today. Wouldnt grab until 3k rpms at a light light launch. Just trying to cruise down the road, I was at 4k and like 50-60 mph. With stock gears!!!!! 2.73 I think....
The shifts also didnt feel solid.
I told him I would primarily drive it on the street with some track, so I wanted a 26-3000 stall.
ATI Treemaster 8" converter
Built th350 bought from reputable shop. Supposed to be hardcore, paid 1400 for it.
The rear is stock and stock tires, at first I thought maybe I was just spinning them, but when I let off the gas and tried to cruise, pffff.
I know my motor has a ton of power. I didnt hammer down on it as I just broke it in. But it felt slowwwww.
The trans is reverse manual. And I made sure it was full of fluid. Checked it everytime I ran and tuned the motor. Put a quart in the converter when I installed it as well. I also installed the converter correctly.
Does it have to break in? There werent any instructions to......the shop is closed, so I'll call them tomorrow, just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

Re: Stall too high?????
how many RPM's is your motor capable of spinning and what crusing RPM do you have (55 mph)? what's your rear gearing? (2.73's is way way to high for a 3000 stall converter, your gonna overheat the tranny if you dont run over the stall RPM of the converter on the road, 3.73 or 4.10 would be better).

Its all forged, but I dont want to take it past 6500. The cam isnt really meant for it. I'm waiting on funds to put a 12 bolt in with 3.73.
I wanted to drive it around a little and break the engine in a little more, but I'm scared of burning up the TC. I really want to mash the gas and slam gears and see what happens. It's also open headers right now, and is ungodly loud.
236/242 .550 .570 lift cam
I just dont like the way it feels at all, but I've never driven a drag only car. Maybe thats just how this TC is.....not gonna be a good street car I guess.
Its the MRT one and cost me $800, so I dont really want to change it. It'll be awesome at the track I'm sure, but I'll probably only get there once a month......beginning to think I should have gone with the TKO......

The stall will calm down a bunch when you switch to a better set of gears, for now it's slipping a lot and will cause much higher tranny temps. I'd get a 3.42 rear out of the junkyard for now at least.

Ok, that makes sense. I'm not going to drive the car very much at all. Still have to fab up an exhaust, install the hood, roll cage, lots of things. Should have the funds for the rear in two months. Also have to drop the tank and remove the pump and install a pickup. That should be a blast.
