I think I may have fried my trans
I had my 700r4 rebuilt three years ago so I didn't think it would go out this quick. Well anyway about 2 weeks ago it started acting up not wanting to shift so I played around with the tv cable and added a pint of trans fluid. That seamed to fix it. Then last Friday I took it to the track. It ran good the hole way there and the trans seemed to be working fine while racing (I have one heck of a boog off the line but I don't think that is the trans problem). I got my 5 runs in and I parked it and watched other people run. About 30 minutes later when I went to go home it didn't want to go in reverse it finally went in then it didn't want to go into 1st then it went in then it would drop in and out for about 100'. After I got out of the parking lot, it wouldn't go into overdrive and the lock up didn't work. I limped to Clinton and put in a quart of fluid. That got overdrive and the lock up back, but it still wasn't shifting right. I got it home and I changed the fluid the next day. It still doesn't want to go into gear when I first start it but it shifts right except it will gear hunt on the off ramp.
Any help with what to do would be appreciated.

the fluid was a dark red, they weren't rely any big metal shavings on the magnet, but they was some light dusting on the magnet

The best way to check the spline count is to count them when the trans is out of the car. Instead of swapping the internals from a later year, buy a $100 core from an 87-92 model year and build it.
