Which fails first
Which fails first
Completing the build on a 408 w/242/252 Hyd Roller and AFR heads. I'm replacing my mild 383. Plan to spray it with a 150-200shot. I have a stock rear (with new guts and a girdle) and a prof. built 700r4. It's been holding up to some mid-11 sec passes but now???? Which fails first the tranny or the rear? Any hope of making these live? Should I just give up and build a good TH350 and swap it in with the 408?

Sounds like a great project! If you've taken the steps toward a solid 700r4 build-up, why not upgrade to a rock solid rear?
I once read some words of good advice that went something like, "begin your power upgrades from the rear, forward". Most of us dont think of it like that..
Good luck

If the trans is built well it should hold up we have 4l60e trans running in the 10s in the f bodies and also twin turbo GTOs in the 10s I dont know if you have ever seen inside a TH350 but its really not much stronger if any than a 700r4 or 4l60e

Re: Which fails first
If you dont do a lot of highway driving and really NEED the overdrive, I would run it till it pukes then do a swap to a TH350 or PowerGlide. I know for a fact that going from a 700 to a PG is worth 1.2 sec(yes 12 10ths) in the quarter. had a 67 camaro that ran 12.15's, blew up the 700 in short order, went11.0's just by going to a Glide, no other changes.
