need help i purchased an 85 iroc car has a 700r that has thirteen miles on rebuild . when in park or neutral the transmission makes no noise as soon as you drop it into drive there is a metal to metal noise while the car is sitting still but goes away when driving returns when you come to a stop. Has anyone ever experienced this symptom?

 

Yes I have. I'm currently working to fix the problem. I'll keep you posted on what I find out. Currently I've got the converter sent out to have it inspected and I rebuilt the transmission front pump. We'll see what happens.

 

Still waiting on that damn torque converter....

 

I have experienced the same noise. For me, I was driving down the road. My 3rd gear went out and i heard the rapid metal scrape sound. I had to limp to work in second gear. Not sure what it is, but it happened the exact moment my tranny went out... Might not be a good sign. (My guess would lean towards something finnicky to do with the torque convertor as it would make a "rotational" sound that increased with speed.)

 

if its the torque no big deal to pull and replace i just dont want to blow the tranny
