700R4 troubles, please help

I did a search on whats going on and really could not find much pertaining to my issue. Any thoughts are welcome.

The tranny shifts great, it was rebuilt about 3 years ago. The problem is this, when I would get into WOT on the highway the 1st to 2nd shift is great, the 2nd to 3rd shift is great and happens arround 70, (remember this is WOT the whole time) then a funny thing happens when the car gets to arround 90... it decides to shift BACK into 2nd and hits about 7k rpm... not cool at all. Well i started playing with my TV cable and finally got it to stop by making the cable as tight as it could get and still let the throttle blades still open all the way EXCEPT now it does want to stay in 4th at lower RPM's with little load as in around 60 mph. When you cruise around 80 it does great. And once again if i change the TV cable to where it does not do this then my WOT shifts BACK into 2nd at 90... The colder the tranny is the less any of this happens, a nice cool night around 65 it is fine, next day at 95 it sucks. The other thing I noticed that seems odd is that even when it is cold and it does not seem to do it at all, if i turn real hard in either direction while cruising with OD locked up it shifts back into 3rd, even with just a quick jerk to eaither side with out pressing or letting off the gas. Tranny fluid looks as if I just dumped it in there. Any ideas?

My transmission has been doing pretty much the same thing lately and I can't figure it out either. I'm about read to just adjust my t.v. cable to where it shifts real low for regular driving and control my shifts manually when I race. Additionally though, mine kind of stutters when it wants to shift, like its not sure what it wants to do. The RPMs on my engine don't race so I don't think its slipping on me. Maybe the shift kit I have has something to do with it? I think there could be a chance my transmission is a little over-filled as well...

those tv settings are real finicky!
my best advise would be to set it to factory spec (push the tv cable release, then cycle the throttle to wot, engine off,) then try to keep the adjustment within 4 or 5 notches of the original adjustment. if you need a higher shift than 5000 at wot, shift manually.
it's worked for me so far. the whole tranny's "brain" is affected by tv cable adjustment. you can kill a 700r4 pretty quick if you stray too far from proper adjustment, including proper geometry of the cable bracket to the throttle linkage, it should be perfectly straight.
there are different brackets available to accomplish this.

Re: 700R4 troubles, please help

well the WOT and hit the button trick works until you get after market intakes and adapter plates, that trick leaves my cable almost all the way in the extended possition and i cant seem to find a really good spot, is there a better way to adjust it once you have mods up there?

My other thought about this is that these problems have not always been an issue, it just started up this summer and does it when it is hot now. And i have not messed with the cable since i droped the motor in on the 90* day in July a few years back then drove all highway to Cleveland the next day, everything was perfect up till now when it is hot.

I know i did not exactly state it before but the tranny does not slip at all when it shifts, all shifts are very possitive.
