th400 vss speedo gear need help

I have a th400, and a electric (stock) speedometer. I purchaced a vss for a 90 firebird, but the shaft that goes into the tranny is just a rod that is shaped like a d on the end. The part i'm replacing has a large red gear. I just need to convert the cable output to an electric signal. I've been looking into alot of pulse generators, and i'm real confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A brief search would have located the dozens of times that I or someone else have posted this same link...

Re: th400 vss speedo gear need help

Thanks. I was not sure if it was the eight pulse. Looks like i'm ordering this one. From this i assume that the wires coming from the unit are self explanitory on how to connect it to the stock speedo. I'd ask, but im sure i'll get whacked in the head with the search button.

#54MG. Eight pulse signal generator for your electronic speedometer head. This goes behind your dash and plugs to the head and drives off of your old speedometer cable. Doesn't include the cables. Can be installed inline for both mechanical speedometer and pulse generator. Can be screwed directly to the transmission at the speedometer housing. Cost $40.00
