I have a 1991 Z28 with the 5.7l. I picked up an LS1 DS and after reading all the threads I know it is a direct fit, but...

I just got a call from my mechanic and he told me that the DS is about an inch short? Is that possible/correct? Did I pick up something other than an LS1 DS?

Is there a part number stamped on the DS that can tell me what I have?

 

Nothing stamped. I'm guessing it doesn't have the sticker on it anymore?

The LS1 shaft has a distinctive yoke that should be easy to id..

Did you put the drive shaft that was in the car and compare it to the alum drive shaft??

 

No, I haven't pulled the DS in the camaro out to compare with the Aluminum DS. I was paraphrasing what the mechanic told me over the phone. He said when they held the Aluminum DS next to the DS in the car, the aluminum DS was about one inch shorter.

 

I installed an LS1 aluminum shaft in my 91 and it's about 3/4" shorter than the stock steel one . 3 years no problems .

 

I believe the driveshaft is shorter but the yoke is longer due to the big collar thingy.
