Help me build my 700r4

This is for an '88 IROC with a decently built 357. My 700 already has a Transgo shift kit and supposely fresh rebuild parts, but I'm not sure it's working properly. The trans shifts at 3k no matter where your pedal is. WOT or light foot, it shifts at 3k. Pisses me off. The converter in it is low, 2000-2200 so says the previous owner. I want to rebuild the trans so that it will shift when I shift it via Pro Stick. Rear gears will be either 3.27's (buddies swapped 9 bolt) or a set of 3.73's. What converter should I run? I was told around 2400-2600, that too small? It will be a street car mostly but will see the track every once and awhile.

Re: Help me build my 700r4

id go 2800-3000 on the converter if your gonna have 3.73s it will give you a nice boost off the line. as far as the tranny if its already got a shift kit it should hold any gear you put it in... if you have it in drive and its only holding till 3k id check the cable geometry and make sure its adjusted properly.

im running a 3500stall fuddle and it works nice for me.... with lockup on you cant tell a diffrence in street driving.

Just reset the TV cable as described. Push in tab, push it in toward the firewall and then rotate throttle WOT. It will ratchet out to its proper length. The GOVERNOR should be used to adjust the shift points and NOT the TV cable. B&M sells a kit for it. A pressure gague and a 700 manual to educate yourself would be 1st step. Here is some info http://www.transmissioncenter.net/700r4.htm

If the throttle has "no change" on the shift rpm's, then you most likely have a stuck throttle valve. You could try pulling the TV cable out and letting it snap back a few times and see if this has any effect. Make sure the TV cable is adjusted properly. It should be tight with a 1/16" play max. at WOT, tight is best to start with. If this does not work, the valve body will have to come off to solve this.

Re: Help me build my 700r4

I'll look into the TV cable. Might get my hands on a 3k converter. My rear gear will be 3.42 now. Picking up a disc rear with a Richmond 3.42 posi.

Thanks for the input.
