Plastic part

What in the plastic part that sits with-in the shifter, that you must push down to shift?

are you talking about the little piece on the left side of the shifter that has to be pushed in to move thru the gears, if so, its spring loaded, and theres a cable that runs down that releases the lock so that you can move the shifter once its pushed in
