I'm having problems with my speedo. after pretty much redoing and testing all of the elctrical componets, we have narrowed it down to a mechanical issue with the VSS and the speedo gear mesh. after removing and insepcting the vss and trans gears, neither of them are stripped and they are both in good condition. the VSS is brand new and was testes to verify that it works correctly. but after installing it in the trans I get nothing. It seems as tho the gear isn't spinning. The VSS installed very easily, it didn;t even seem like the gears meshed at all. I have it in as much as it can go. so my question is....
1. Is it possible that this is an ealier style trans and used a mecahnical cable driven type and was changed over to a electrical(the trans was rebuilt before i got it but I don;t have any info on it.
2. is it possible that the drive gear has shifted on the output shaft and is not allowing the gears to mesh properly??
3. or do I just straight up have the wrong VSS.

As far as I know, the drive gear on the output shaft is the same whether the trans is a cable or electronic speedo. Its the driven gear that is different.
#2 sounds like the most likely thing.

 

looks like your gonna pull the tailhousing off. this is what happens when you buy one of will's cars.
