Re: kicking out of second

We meet again! I had a similar problem years ago with 3rd gear(an old T-10 I believe). I changed the lubricant in the trans and added a can of STP oil treatment(there was`nt much of a choice then) and my problems went away for as long as I had the car. Don`t know if this will do anything for you but who knows? You might check your linkage adjustment, again maybe, maybe not. What happens if you hold on to the shifter? Will it still kick out?

Re: kicking out of second

i only had it out for a quick spin up the road and back, it spit second twice in a row, newer went above 3rd, so i dont know if 4th works or not. I didnt try to hold it in gear, but im going to take it out tomorrow and see if it was just a flook from the jitters or another issue. does anyone know if there is adjustment in the shift forks?

Re: kicking out of second

well, 4th is fine. I found that if i just put the trans in second, and release the clutch, it falls out of gear. If i just hold the shifter in 2nd, and release the clutch all is well. I can live with that. Damn this thing is a blast to drive

Re: kicking out of second

after a little more investigation, i found that the reason for the shifter popping out of 2 and sometimes falling out of 4th, was all in the shifter. When i got the trans, Forte's made me a setback shifter to assist in centering the shifter in the console it looks like this
the "stock" shifter looks like this

notice the setback in the top picture. What is happening is that when the shifter is in the rearward position, 2 4 even R, the piece of bar that sets the shifter back compresses the rubber boot under itself, not allowing the trans to fully engage the gear, and the pressure of the rubber pushing back up will occasionally pop the trans out of gear.
I pulled the boot off and everything is great. I have to call Forte's tomorrow with a speedo issue, and i will mention this to him. Its nice to know that nothing is bent/damaged in the trans
