lately id say past 3 days now my car has been sounding funny ever since i started running my m/t et streets on the car for a bit. just recently i now hear a clunk from the 1-2 shift and sometimes the 3-4 shift under light throttle. i also hear a clunk if i got WOT at about 35mph and quickly let off. on top of this all i just got a whining noise too but only when there is force on whatever since it only happens when im hitting the gas pedal. BTW all these sounds sound like theyre coming from the rear of the car. i dont know if its the rearend or if its the ujoints. im pretty sure its not the tranny mount since ive broken one before and it had way different symptoms.

 

id bet money you ripped your tranny mount in half if it makes that clunk every time you nail it... its the tailshaft jumping up and hitting your floorboard...
i went through 3 of them in less than a year and that was on my stock 305 with 2.73 gears... id get a poly mount and be done with it.

 

Mine made the same kinda sound. Whenever i stood on the throttle, it sounded like the transmission was smacking the tranny tunnel.

$15, and 30 mins later, back on the road with a new tranny mount

1) trans mount
2) check the u joint
3) whatever i said about the pinion thingy.

 

i know im looking for other opinions cause its hard to explain. im pretty sure its not the tranny mount because if i just step on it it doesnt clunk unless i let off immediately. also on top of it all if i have the car in Drive and i slow to a stop it makes a clunk downshifting into first at a real low mph, but thats only in drive, in overdrive no downshifting noise. ill check it out sometime this week on the lift.

 

Hmm, I don't know what it is, but I have the same issue. 91 RS with a 350 and 700r4 swapped in by the previous owner.

 

well check it to rule out tranny mount... just put a jack under the tail shaft and see if it lifts off the xmember.

 

yea im gonna get to checking it sometime this week dunno which day though. ill get back to you all and let you know.

 

If it's the tranny mount you can FEEL it. Just lay your hand on the carpet of the tunnel and feel for the clunk.
