overdrive ????'s

just finished a engine swap and tranny swap in my 82 ta. tranny is a 2004r from BTO. it shifts fine through all the gears and downshifts fine, but my problem is minimal throttle doing anywhere from 25-40 MPH. to cruise down a residential street at that speed requires next to no thorttle becasue the tranny shifts into overdrive and it will start to chug.
my question is should it shift into overdrive this soon? if I drop it into 3rd it runs at about 14-1500rpm and has good throttle response then. any suggestions?

Re: overdrive ????'s

I did contact BTO today and they told me around town (i'm assuming under 45) I should not have the tranny in overdrive, I should keep it in third. does this sound right? it is a 200r4, do the 700r4's have this issue? seems like that's the point of the automatic, put it in drive and go. unless it's because it's pressure driven vs. computer controlled shifts? any comments?

Re: overdrive ????'s

yeah if you have it pressure driven then only put it in overdrive above 45MPH, if computer driven it is supposed to be fine inOD. the pressure driven design should let it upshift at lighter throttle pressures causing the early OD shift.
