Servo Installation?

I got a corvette servo with my trans-go shift kit...... well the shift kit's in but I have no room to pull the servo cap off and pull the shaft out!!!!

How did everyone else do it????????
Don't tell me that I have to drop the tranny or something..... My custom exhaust would get in the way.......

Re: Servo Installation?

your going to have to at least lower it enough to do the job, unbolt the crossmember and let it down with a jack, just watch your distributor cap isnt going to hit hit the firewall

Re: Servo Installation?

Yep, drop the x member and let the engine way down.

You are going to want to replace the accumulators with corvette accumulators too, Just the servo is only going to do so much. The accumulators should have been done w/ the shift kit, since the VB has to come out to put them in.

Re: Servo Installation?

Ya I did the accumulators 1-2 & Forward in the auxiliary Valve body(Pistons & springs), the .500 main boost valve, PR Valve, .296 intermediate/ reverse boost valve, TV Valve upgrade, Accumulator valve upgrade with srings, Line Bias valve with springs, Upgrade 3-2 control valve and checkplate modifications...... Pretty much the Trans-go kit with a Pro-built automatics touch......
I'm sure that tons of guys here run Dana's set-up (from Pro-built)

I'm not sure how low I'm gonna be able to hang my tranny down though.....

Due to the exhaust

Re: Servo Installation?

I didn't use the transgo after the complaints I have heard about it, but otherwise I just did more or less the same to a 700R4, using a Superior kit instead. You will have enough room to drop it down once the x over is removed. you will probably have to unbolt the exhaust up front as well. It's more of a PITA than I had expected.

Re: Servo Installation?

yea i had to rip down my dual 3" with xpipe inorder to drop the trans enough to replace my vette servo with superiors 35% larger than vette servo and 50% larger than stock billet overdrive servo. there is nooooooo room and it was a PITA!!! but worth it. i had the transgo shift kit installed with the vette servo and modified downshift valve yadda yadda in my SIG. it was a nice improvement but the .500 mega valve and intermidiate low/reverse boost valves and billet servos woop my old setup. still i want harder shifts!!!

much harder than those mods and you are into bang shift teritory, which breaks parts.

Re: Servo Installation?

Pretty tight huh?????
How much trouble is it to drop the exhaust? I was thinking of unbolting the front (@the colllector) and letting the tailend stay hanging.
Can you usually push the exhaust back some to clear the collector?

Man I wanna finish this thing before it gets too cold!!!!!!

Re: Servo Installation?

Holy pinch bent exhaust batman. Yeah that is going to have to come out of the way. Since that is a very not stock pipe setup, and I have no idea how it is hung, it may or may not swing out of the way. It may have to be dropped. Only you can tell from under the car.

Re: Servo Installation?

I'm sooooo tired of this bull****!!!!!! I dropped the front of my exhaust and the tranny crossmember....... I let it down slowly with my FloorJack and it barely budged!!!!!!!!! My hedders are hung up on my A-arms F**k!!!!!!!
Anyways I did the best that I could and got half of the servo out.......
The Wire, cover, 4th piston, small C-clip, washer, spring, & the housing out........ I tried to pull the 2nd piston out and it won't come, I can slide it back and forth but the shaft wants to come with it. It stops where the C-clip would be (and no there's no ridge). I would be able to get the 2nd piston out if the shaft would stay in the tranny.......Is there any way to get the 2nd piston out?
I suppose the snap ring behind the springs and steel cover is the culpret here, right?
I'm ready to take a hammer to my transmission tunnel!!!!!!!
Any help would be appreciated at this point before I do anything that I will regret later......
By the way, removing the hedders would suck too, I know!

Re: Servo Installation?

Nope, no snap ring. The band apply pin makes a wear ridge on the pin that will make the 2nd piston hard to get off. You need to get the pin out with it, so you are going to need more clearance. I was working in a 2nd gen so my long tubes cleared everything. You may have to drop the headers.

You really need to check your servo cover travel, to determine if your pin is long enough for optimal band apply, anyway. You may well end up having to replace the pin, so it is going to have to come out. The pin being optimal length made a big difference in shift quality for me. I had 0.130" cover travel (measured with the servo all put back together ,but the cover o ring removed, cover snap ring reinstalled, pushing down on the cover and checking with a dial indicator) with my GM remanned trans. I used a longer band apply pin and got the cover travel down to 0.095". This reduced shift time.

Re: Servo Installation?

Well I can't feel a ridge on the pin....... but it doesn't mean it's not there....
Looks like I'll unbolt my hedders from the block so that the engine and tranny can tilt down....... What a b**ch!!!!!!! I donn't know what else to do......
Hey 327 Maro, Where did ya get the info on the pin and such ie- servo cover travel and reduced shift time
I'm always looking for more theory and applied practice, just gotta know where to find it

Thanks for everything guys
Chris

Re: Servo Installation?

My pin didn't feel like it had a ridge on it either, but it did. Even w/ the servo and pin out of the car it was very hard to pull them apart.

Floorguy informed me about the pin /servo travel specs. All it is, is a band adjustment on this trans. Something like a 904/727 Chrysler would have a threaded band adjuster for each band, to adjust the clearance, which will affect shift overlap. I much prefer the threaded adjuster, because you can only get so much resolution w/ the different length pins GM sells. You can get the longest pin an grind for clearance, which is what Floorguy had me do. in my case, the longest pin available (search for 700R4 pin on ebay) was the right length from the get-go.

Floorguy says shoot for 0.075-0.095" cover travel for performance use.

Re: Servo Installation?

sounds like you need more traction to help you feel the shift.

Re: Servo Installation?

I don't know.... I have Yokahama AVS ES100's Pretty sticky....... More than the Goodyear Gatorbacks that I had, but it has been cool around here lately. That would effect traction.
