Wheel Studs

I recently just put moroso 1/2 inch wheel studs in my axles. Put my prostars on and the lug nuts went on pretty easy. When i went to take them back off the lug nuts were REALLY tight. Ended up snapping off three studs. How does this happen with brand new hardware and 1/2 inch studs. I would like to know how it happens so it doesnt happen again with new er studs

Re: Wheel Studs

did you use the old lug nuts ? stock wheel studs are metric as are nuts . close to 1/2 in. but not quite . stock wheel studs are 12x1.5 [ i think ] . sounds like thats the problem .

Re: Wheel Studs

if you used the correct nuts with the studs a little bit of anti-seize couldn't hurt.

I used all new hardware, and brand new 1/2-20 shank style lug nuts on the 1/2-20 studs. Same as the fronts except all 7/16" and their fine. I also used anti-seize.

Re: Wheel Studs

if they were the correct size as you say , there is one thing that could be the problem . many times chrome lugnuts get chrome inside on the threads . its always a good idea to chase threads with a tap . i say this because i had a damaged stud on my truck . chrome is much harder than steel and can gall the studs in a heartbeat . sounds like that happened to you . good luck !!!

Re: Wheel Studs

yeah more than likely thats what happened. I installed the lugs on the other wheel and they all went on perfect. Probably just got three bad lug nuts. $hitty cause now i'll have to replace 3 more studs. Oh well, you gotta love a chevy. They are the best!
