Transmission mount

I was told that the transmission mount for my 1992 Trans Am needs replaced soon. I just wanted to know if this is a part that would be easy for me to replace myself, or if I should go to a transmission shop to have them replace it. I called a couple of my local shops, and they say they would charge $30 for the replacement and $35 for the part. I was looking at my auto store and they recommended a Energy-Suspension Performance transmission mount which only costs $19.99, so the part would be cheaper than if I purchased through the transmission shop. Is the transmission mount for a 1992 Trans Am simple enough to replace that I should save the $30 in installation fees? Also does anyone know if the Energy-Suspension Performance transmission mount is a good one, or could you recommend a different brand?

The search isn't working. I can type in the exact title of this thread and do a search and it comes up with no threads. If it was just covered, then what was the recommendation?

Re: Transmission mount

It is extremely simple to replace.

$30 isn't a bad price; that's like a half-hour of labor, which by the time they write up a ticket, raise the car, order the part, etc. etc. etc. in addition to just turnign the bolts, is not unrealistic at all. So yeah, you can do it yourself and save the $30, but you'll be hard-pressed to find anybody that'll do it for very much less.

Yes you want the ES mount, or the Prothane one.

Re: Transmission mount

true it's a very good price Monroe muffler wanted to charge me 80 bucks. I said "for that? No thanks" and that was for a cheap rubber one.

I say let them do it for that price.
