Could I put this vintage of a 4speed in my 88 formula?
M21 or M22?
If I had the right belhousing hookups?

It would take CONSIDERABLY more than that; but yes, that would be one of the steps you'd have to take.
It'd make more sense to put in a T-56. Stronger than a Muncie, about the same or a little stronger than the best of the T-10s.
1st through 4th are basically the same ratios as the wide-ratio Muncie or T-10; BUT, you get 2 overdrive gears besides!!! What a deal. Meaning, you can put 4.10s in your car, and get the launch; but still have super-low highway cruising RPMs.
And, they fit a whole lot easier.
All of which might possibly help explain why people with those old 60s gearboxes are taking them out and putting in T-56s, which in turn is why there's so many Muncies coming out of the closet these days. Nobody that knows what theyr'e doing wants them any more, except for the "numbers matching" type resto people.

It can be done, but you need a special $400 bellhousing, you'll have to find a shifter that will work, as there isn't one designed for a tradiational 4-spd/3rdgen combination (the '82 Sag and T10 don't count, its mounted VERY differently) and you'll need an aftermarket torque-arm and trans crossmember setup that mounts the torque arm on the body or crossmember instead of the trans.
The only *reasonable* way to put a strong 4-spd setup in a 3rdgen is to track down entire T10 setup from an '82 - which is difficult to peice together. I lucked out an got an entire setup (trans, T/A, crossmember, bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, shifter, and linkage) for less than I sold my T5 setup for.
Honestly, you'd be WAY ahead to take Sofa's advise on using the T56... finding the right T10 setup will be very difficult to do, and making a tradiational 4-spd setup work will get expensive in a hurry... substantially more than the T56 swap.
Not trying to steer you away from the 4-spd idea... I love my 4-spd setup, it kicks *** out at the dragstrip. Just like Sofa though, just trying to bring some reality to the situation - the T56 is by FAR the best option, both for cost and function. Deals like my T10 setup are few and far between. Everyone wants it for some reason, but there were only a few thousand (under 4000 total) 3rdgen T10s made. Unlike the 20 or 30-thousand-ish T56s on the LT1 cars made.
