Speedometer and Odometer have quit working

Speedometer and Odometer have quit working
This morning my speedometer and odometer quit working. the cable has been squeeking for some time. any ideas of what may have happened?

it was squeaking? did the cable snap? i know on my 81 K10 the cable was rubbing against the driveshaft and it made a minor squeaking sound but if the cable is fine i would check your gauge cluster and make sure its still hooked up
