flywheel for my 305

i am swapping my 700r4 out for a borg warner t5. i ordered a flywheel for my 86 z28 tpi 305 and the bolt pattern is way off and the hole in the center of the flywheel is alot smaller diameter than the crankshaft where it should bolt up. wondering what to do??? where can i find the right flywheel? thanks

Re: flywheel for my 305

the way it sounds is that you might the pre-85 flywheel. if the back of the crankshaft has a counter weight on it, i believe that you need that earlier style. hope this helps

Re: flywheel for my 305

is the flange on the crank round? if so its a one piece rear main seal, the later block. if it is not round then it is a 2 piece rear and needs the early flywheel. I beleive that car should be a one piece, and it sounds like you got an older flywheel

Re: flywheel for my 305

Sounds like what you actually have, is a CAR that SHOULD require the newer style flywheel with the small hole, and that's what flywheel you now have, and it doesn't fit the crank; but the car has an older engine in it, which needs the older style flywheel with the larger hole.

You need a flywheel for 83-85 Camaro/Firebird V8. You will find that there are 2. The difference is the weight; about 16 lbs vs about 22 lbs. You probably will want the lighter one, especially if you have a decent gear in it (higher than 3.23). If you have 2.73, 3.08 or 3.23, you might want the heavier one.
