A herculean clutch

Folks,

I hope someone can help me here... My clucth is heavy, really heavy. Ages ago I but a supose high performance clutch set (plate, disc, bearing) from pep boys. I have alway know it was heavier, suppose more girppin power.

But I am gettin tired of holding the clutch down on heavy traffic. There are some days, when there is bumper to bumper traffic, that I just want to pull aisde and wait...My foot feels numb!!! In addition, the link where the hidraulic cluthc connect to the pedal is wearing out!

I have other non-modified manual trans autos, and none have a clutch as heavy as my camaro. I have double check my hidraulic clutch system and is fine. I wonder if there is some alternative

I donthave possi traccion, I dont drag race... infact, from the transmission backwards, the car is stock. I want a clutch set that is easy on my legs. Is there such a thing? PLEASE< PLEASE let me know.

Re: A herculean clutch

a lot of people here use the centerforce dual friction clutches, seems to work well.

I have a Zoom kevlar clutch, with kevlar on both side of the disc. so far, i have had no problems with it, the pedal feel is great, and it holds the torque from my 408 with no problems. something to look at.

Re: A herculean clutch

Thanks for the post. I research a bit on the Zoon clutch, and it appears to be for nitrous, and the like... my engine is mild modified... I wonder if it is too much to my car... To be honest. I wonder if the clutch is suppose to be like that.. I mean, as hard to as mine.. I want a feather touch clutch. with mild gripping force.

I cannot believe I am the only one that has this issue... the actual clutch hydraulic slave connector to the pedal is wearing out, and is a new one.

Re: A herculean clutch

I assume you are using the factory T56 hydraulics. What pedal set are you using? The thirdgen pedal set will be stiffer than the 4th gen pedal set. The hydraulic arm pivot point on the pedal was closer to the top of the pedal on the 4th gen set to better match with the hydraulic set, or so I'm told. When I did my swap I tried both pedal sets and if remember correctly the 4th gen set had a softer pedal with the same clutch setup.

I have a hays street/strip clutch with 3rd gen pedals and my clutch pedal is defiantly heavy. But it's not bad enough to bother me, I kind of like it that way. I just got used to it I guess.

You can get a clutch with softer springs, modify the pivot point of the 3rd gen pedals, or get a set of 4th gen pedals.

I have a set of 4th gen pedals for sale if you are interested.

THanks. I am not using the 4th gen set up. the t-56 I bought was a retrofit version that allow me to use my t-5 bellhousing, and clutch set up. Pretty neat. The clutch I have was bougth at Pepaboys a while ago. It was suppose to be "heavy Duty." Some how I doubt it... which concerns me, since I could mean that may be thats how the clutch is.. heavy... But then I see the link (the hole) were the master cylinder rod connects to the clutch pedal, and it was signs of heavy wear, which could indicate over stress due to heavy clutch.

I will take pictures and post a new thread, may be then people can see what I am dealing with!.

Thanks
