axel play

ok so i noticed my car was gettin a little snakey in the rear end so when i got home pulled off the rear drivers wheel and brake drum and started to jiggle the axel shaft it dosent move side to side but in and out around 1/8th to 1/4" and when im driving it feels as if my sway bar is cracked off butt i know its not i checked all that stuff but i was just wondering if the play in my axel is normal and i should look elsewhere for my problem or am i on the right track? also what is the proper torque setting for my lug nuts i have them on at 110 foot pounds and need to be sure thats right

Re: axel play

I had this same problem on my camaro and it was causing the caliper to rub on the rotor. When i took the rear out, the c clips, which hold the axels in, made a bigger groove in the axels, giving it more room to move in and out. I swapped out the rear for another, since that one only had 2:73's. Hope this helps.

Re: axel play

You should be able to swap the axles as long as the other rear is from a thirdgen and has the same nmber of teeth.
