I would like to put a Moser 9 Inch under my 89 IROC , but I am told that my disk brakes won't work. Why not?

Re: Moser 9 Inch

Call Moser and ask.

You've just got the crappy Saginaw brakes anyway; not worth preserving, let aone moving to another component. Consider this your golden opportuinty to put some other kind of brakes on there that WILL fit, and that actually work. I've heard of people using Frod Exploder brakes on such setups which seems like a reasonable way to go.

Moser themselves might even be able to tell you what they set their rears up for. Just a thought....

Re: Moser 9 Inch

It just all has to do with the axle tube size. Moser uses 3" tubing, stock are smaller so it wont mount on to the housing end without modification. I cant be done with cutting and steel plates though just takes time

Re: Moser 9 Inch

We put this rear end in a buddy's '86 Trans Am over the summer... we used 4thgen LT1 disc brakes (discs, pads, calipers), and they worked pretty well.

Re: Moser 9 Inch

my original axel had drums so when i bought my 9" i just called up moser and had them make the studs to 3rd gen factory specs and bought a disk brake coversion kit and installed it as if i has a stock axel swaping it from drums to disks. works pretty well
