85 rearend question?

i want to buy a limited slip differential for my 85 camaro, i was wondering the specs of my rear end, ring gear size 7.5" or 7 5/8? and how many splines my axles have? It was a 2.8 V-6 Auto. Now with a 350 HO. I know the the ratio is 3.42. Thanks.

Re: 85 rearend question?

Technically, your ring gear is 7.5", but either size ring gear fits on ALL the carriers. That's why new gear sets are usually listed as 7.5/7.625 under the same part number. An 85 rear has 26 spline axles. They didn't switch to 28 spline until late 89.
