Rear end swap/mix

I have two camaros. A parted out 1988 IROC, with the 2.73(?) posi rear end, and a 1991 RS 3.1l v6 with the 3.23 open rear.

Assuming these cars both have factory rears:

Can I pull the ring and pinion from my '91 and fit it to the '87 rear so I can technically have a 3.23 posi?

Will the carriers and housings match in my 91 or do i have to swap the entire thirdmember and what not?

Thanks fellas

No. You have two different carriers, 2-series for the Limited slip 2:73 and 3-series for the 3:25 open rear. You can buy a spacer for the 2-series carrier.

Re: Rear end swap/mix

I'm looking on summit racing to see which spacer i would need.

I'm not sure which one I need though, is it the ring gear spacer or one of the pinion spacers?

Also is the spline count on the axles going to be the same?

You are going to need the spacer for the ring gear and other parts required to set up a gear change. The spline count for the axle shafts are different too. 26 for the 1988 and 28 for the 1991. Good luck on this DIY job, you will need it.
